Lawang Sewu is an old Dutch building, used to be an office of NIS ( Nederlandsch-Indische Spoorweg Maatschappij ). I was sketching there on Sunday 5th/1/14 and a local journalist took my picture and it was on the paper the next day. I didn't read the hardcopy of the newspaper and only read it from the on line e-paper.
The sketch I did yesterday (14th August 2010) and I added to this post.
In the front of former NIS office in the colonial era in Indonesia, there's Tugu muda, a monumet dedicated to the Semarangese youth who fight against the Japanese occupation troops in Indonesia during the WW II.
Now known as Gdung Lawang Sewu, it was an office building of Nederlands-Indische Spoorweg Maatschappij (NIS) in the Dutch Colonial time. Built in 1904 and completed in 1907 on the area called Wilhelmina Plein.

Two people are working up there to clean the Yamaha ofiice in Jalan Pemuda Semarang. I am outing for sketching so I am with all of my sketching gear when I pass the building and see this. Get stop in across the road and find a comfort site to do this sketch.
Tugu Muda ... this monument was completed in 1953. This is for remembering the five days war from 14th to 19th October 1945 between the Indonesian youth and the Japanese troops.
